Microsoft To End Office Mix – Brings the Features to its Office 365 PowerPoint

Marked on the calendar is May 1, 2018. Microsoft has recently announced that Office Mix is set to retire on this date while stressing the move to adopt the features to Office 365 PowerPoint. The software giant urges Office Mix users to act immediately and start backing up files. Better yet, consider Microsoft office 365 migration now.

Office Mix is a free extension to PowerPoint that makes it feasible for a PowerPoint presentation to be an interactive online lessons and recordings. These are the following features of Office Mix that will be integrated in Office 365 PowerPoint. Here you can add:

Audio and video narration

It’s best to choose which is apt for your presentation or audience. If you prefer to use the audio narration without video, use a conversational tone such that your audience listens to it as though you are speaking directly to them. Also, you can choose to use digital ink so that the attention of your listeners is on the slides. It might be best to invest in a good microphone instead of relying on the built-in microphone your laptop or tablet.

Draw on a slide with ink

A real-time draw on the slides with digital ink is a perfect technique to supplement audio narration so you can walk the audience through the entire discussion especially when describing a procedure or when holding how-to lessons. The commonly used are underlining or putting a circle around a text, drawing checkmarks or arrows to an image. For best-quality ink strokes, use a digitising tablet instead of a mouse.

Screen recordings to demo actions done to a program on the computer

It’ also called screencast which is similar to slide recording but the audience gets to see actions taken in any other program on the computer. Screen recording comes handy when you show the step-by-step action that is done using a computer running Windows.

Insert quizzes and polls

You can insert a quiz, choose which type of quiz it should be, and preview your quiz.

Simulations, videos, and live web pages

This is a straightforward example of Mix’s interactive capabilities. Here you can insert live web pages, educational simulations and videos right into your PowerPoint slides.

Once Office 365 integrates Office Mix’s features to its PowerPoint Recording Tab, Office 365 users won’t have to download the extension anymore. Microsoft office 365 migration guide covers the necessary procedure in migrating and publishing recordings to Microsoft Stream, and make uploads and shares of videos across an organisation feasible.

Considering that Office Mix has already gained a lot of users over the years, it is only reasonable for the giant software to gradually shut down the Office Mix support and services over the next six months to give users ample time before May 1, 2018 to do the necessary on their end. Below is the rundown schedule of the shutting off of contents stored on its servers lifted from Microsoft Support Office:

October 20, 2017: If you have an existing Office Mix account, you’ll still be able to view, edit, publish, download, and delete your existing content. If you have a qualifying* Office 365 work or school account, you can sign in to migrate your mixes as videos to Microsoft Stream. If you don’t have access to an Office 365 work or school account, you can download your Mixes as PowerPoint files (.pptx), and you analytics data as Excel files (.xlsx) to save to a storage location of your choosing.

January 1, 2018: You’ll no longer be able to sign up as a new user or download the Office Mix add-in from the website. Existing users who already have the Mix add-in installed will still be able to use it to upload, edit, view, and download their existing content.

May 1, 2018: The Office Mix site and all its content will be officially discontinued. The site will no longer be accessible after that date. Any links to your Office Mix content that you previously shared with others will stop working after this date.
